League of Women Voters Education Fund Seeks Program Interns

The League of Women Voters of Minnesota Education Fund (LWVMNEF) was organized in 1983 to carry out the educational programs of the League of Women Voters of Minnesota.  LWVMNEF serves Minnesota citizens of all ages.  Through monitoring, public meetings and publications, the LWVMNEF initiates discussions of public policy issues that begin the process of change within communities.  The LWVMNEF never supports or opposes political parties or candidates and as a tax deductible 501(c)(3) organization is never used to lobby or influence legislation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

LWVMNEF is seeking two program interns to work in coordination with the Program Director on the main programs run by LWVMNEF:  State of Democracy, Leaders of Today and Tomorrow (LOTT), Voter Service, and the Diversity Task Force.  Program interns will play an integral role in the success of these programs.  We seek passionate, creative and enthusiastic people interested in learning how nonprofits manage and develop programming to serve the local and state community.  Specifically, program interns will assist staff in a wide variety of projects including:

  • Assisting in planning and executing community events
  • Researching and writing program curriculum
  • Coordinate with LWVMNEF on program development
  • Help in developing special events and fundraisers
  • Additional administrative duties as designated by LWVMNEF staff
  • Assist with efforts to increase grassroots organizing capacity with local LWVMN chapters, including outreach and maintaining our member database
  • Attending community meetings on the 2010 Census and reporting back to LWVMNEF staff
  • Help LWVMNEF increase use of technology and other web-based tools to promote its advocacy work, including email action alerts, social media websites and launching of an online journal on LWVMNEF's website

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Interest in the mission of League of Women Voters Education Fund.
  • Experience using the internet for research, as well as computer proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite highly desired
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High level of initiative and follow through required
  • Some experience with website maintenance and online advocacy tool is a plus
  • Able to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Although working hours are flexible, ability to attend bi-weekly program staff meetings and a once monthly all staff meeting is required

Additional Information:

This internship is unpaid.  The position can be for college credit.  The internship is a 10-15 hour per week commitment.  Length of internship can be negotiated.  Through August 2009 is preferred.
