LOTT 2008 Seminar
Shaping the Next Generation of Leaders
Leaders of Today & Tomorrow inspires college-aged women to become active
citizens and to envision themselves as future leaders. LOTT offers intensive
seminars, mentoring opportunities, networking and more to today's promising
young women.
LOTT's Objectives
- Increase the participation of women in government and fields affecting public
policy
- Demystify the legislative process
- Promote the diversity of women's leadership
- Match young women with encouraging, supportive mentors
- Cultivate civic responsibility
- Explore career and volunteer opportunities for women in the public arena
- Relate current critical policy issues to a personal level
- Introduce young women to female role models who are making a difference
Striving for Diversity
LOTT's inspirational programs draw a diverse audience - and that's no accident.
We believe leadership comes in all shapes and sizes.
The percentages of participants who are women of color are nearly twice the
percentage of corresponding minorities in Minnesota, and we actively invite
women from a cross section of economic sectors. Women from all levels
of socioeconomic status have attended.
LOTT participants are geographically diverse as well. Women hail from
all regions of Minnesota, both rural and metropolitan.
Invitations to participate are sent to a wide range of colleges. Four-year,
two-year, technical, public and private schools have all sent students to take
part in LOTT.
LOTT Background
"This was a fantastic
experience that will be with me forever. It will also help me personally
to succeed because I now have a better understanding of the various roles women
can take in shaping policy."
Leaders of Today & Tomorrow was founded in 1993 with guidance from Minnesota
colleges and organizations, and is currently a program of the League of Women
Voters of Minnesota Education Fund.
LOTT is unlike any other program. While the vast majority of leadership
programs focus on personal change, LOTT promotes systemic change. We get
to the root of the problem –the lack of women's involvement in public affairs.
