The League of Women Voters of the Jackson
Area strengthens our community by:
·
Promoting
voter registration and turnout.
· Conducting candidate forums.
· Advocating high standards in campaign ethics
· Advocating that voters be informed.
· Studying issues relevant to our area.
· Participating in www.dnet.org , an on-line voter education site.
· Giving Scholarships to two JCC graduates each year who plan careers in public service and education.
· Contributing educational materials to schools and libraries
CALENDAR AND EVENTS:
Meetings are held at 9 AM the third Wednesday of each month September through June excepting February.
Our study this year will parallel the LWVMN study of Agricultural Issues. Topics to be considered are: international trade, foreign policy effects on market s for farmers, stewardship of the environment, genetically altered products, federal programs like Freedom to Farm, and the sustainability of family farms.
September 9 and 10th we will serve a salad luncheon for the Quilt Show in Jackson.
In October 2000 we will host a forum for candidates in SD 22 and HD22B. Check local papers for time and place or www.dnet.org
