Our mission and
activities
The League
of Women Voters is a non-partisan political organization that
encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government
and influences public policy though education and advocacy.
The League is well known
nationally for its well-studied and carefully considered positions on
political issues. As a grassroots organization, these issues are chosen by
over 1500 local Leagues. The local Leagues also work on issues of local
interest to its members. We encourage and educate members on how to get
more involved in the political process and to make a difference.
Additionally, we provide our membership and the community with candidate
forums, publications, and public and membership events.
Join us
On a monthly basis,
LWV Wayzata/Plymouth Area members meet to discuss a
variety of topics. Some meetings are held during the year in conjunction
with other local leagues to discuss topics of regional concern. Everyone
is welcome at these meetings and at our public events, such as candidate’s
forums.
We look forward to
meeting you! For information on meeting times and places, please check the
Calendar. To

Why should I join the League?
Here are some important reasons why people like
you join the League.
Become more informed about your community.
League members learn to understand critical and often controversial public
matters through the League's careful, nonpartisan research on local, state
and national issues. League studies and reports, which are authored by
League members, account for all viewpoints and incorporate the League's best
thinking about good government practices.
Encourage citizen participation. League
members not only set good examples for being informed and active citizens,
they also encourage others, through nonpartisan means, to engage in
government and the electoral process.
Work in the community. You can make a
difference at a local level by getting involved with the League. From
learning how to host a candidate forum, to studying an issue, League members
contribute directly to the civic health of the community.
Grow personally and professionally.
Whatever your skill level, the League is the perfect training ground for
sharpening your skills, from developing leadership and project management
skills to learning how to lobby on positions, to building life-long networks
and friendships, to improving practical skills like public speaking,
writing, and budgeting.
Support our work. As a grassroots
organization we speak with the collective voice of all our members. The more
members we have, the louder our voice speaks. So even if you do not have
time to volunteer, your membership provides important financial and symbolic
support for our work.
Contribute to a specific League project or
program. League members design programs and projects to address
community issues. The League's work is wide-ranging and flexible, allowing
members to get involved at the time commitment level that fits his or her
schedule.
