THE LEAGUE
OF WOMEN VOTERS
WHITE BEAR / NORTH OAKS / MAHTOMEDI AREA

What does League do?

Encourage voters. We encourage government participation by sponsoring candidate forums, publishing voter guides and providing election information. Members plan and carry out the details of candidate debates or issue forums using League's respected nonpartisan format.

Study issues. Taking care to consider all sides, League members research issues--issues of concern at all levels of government--our community, the Twin Cities region, the state, as well as the nation and world. Members may interview public officials or members of the community, or review other sources of information. They share the information at discussion unit meetings where members talk about options for resolving the problem.

Agree on a position. After studying an issue, we come to a consensus and decide what needs to be done about the problem.

Take a stand. From discussing issues at unit meetings, members become informed enough to talk about issues informally over the back fence or in the community. We phone, email or visit elected officials or write letters to the editor in support of our position. When League leaders speak, policy makers listen. They know the position has been developed after careful study and member agreement.
