How Small Political Donors Can Get More Clout in Elections

Learn How New York’s New Public Match for Small Campaign Donations Works

For the first time, donations of up $250 to eligible campaigns of candidates for state wide and legislative offices in New York are being matched multiple times during the 2024 campaign. A big result will be candidates focusing more on small contributors and relying less on large contributions from special interests and wealthy individuals.

Two campaign finance experts from the Brennan Center for Justice, a national organization that works to craft and advance reforms to make American Democracy work for all. Marina Pino and Celina Avalos Jaramillo will explain how the new public match program works and how it came to be enacted. Both have provided advice to advocates and public officials on campaign finance. They will be interviewed by retired, Star-Tribune journalist, Dave Hage, a Pulitzer Prize winner.

The Zoom Webinar program is scheduled from 7:00 to 8:00 pm CST on March 12, 2024. The event is sponsored by Clean Elections Minnesota and co-sponsored by Minnesota League of Women Voters, We Choose Us, and Fair Vote Minnesota.
