Nitrates in the News - Are They in YOUR Water?

Nitrates have been in the news a lot lately. How do they get into our drinking water, why is that bad, and what’s being done about it? Join us to hear representatives from Olmsted County's outstanding Soil & Water Conservation District (OCSWCD) speak about their involvement in creative projects to protect our groundwater from nitrates as well as improve our soil. Our guest speakers will be:

  • Skip Langer - OCSWCD Soil Conservation Manager

  • James Rentz - OCSWCD Board Chair

Soil and water conservation districts have existed in the United States since the Dust Bowl in the 1930s, originally forming to help farmers conserve soil. The OCSWCD consists of both staff and elected board members whose work affects the livability and sustainability of our community. What is it like to serve on the Board?  What does it take to run for a seat? Where might OCSWCD be headed in the future?

You’ve seen candidates for this office on your ballot. Join us to be a more informed voter and learn about this part of our government and their work to conserve soil, water, and related natural resources.

There will be time for audience questions. The event is free and open to the public with no registration required. (Click here for more Zoom options.)
