Join us on June 21 at Northrup Auditorium for a special Juneteenth Celebration with Sweet Potato Comfort Pie. Featuring "Kumbayah: The Juneteenth Story" by LWV Golden Valley's Rose McGee, this 90-minute play delves into the historical trauma of withheld freedom for Black people. Through storytelling and music, experience a captivating narrative that uplifts despite its tragic themes. Following the play, Dr. Amelious Whyte, University of Minnesota’s Interim Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, will lead a 20-minute Q&A with the cast.
Kumbayah the Juneteenth Story is at 11am on June 21, and tickets are FREE, but must be reserved. Consider bringing your local League members as a special event to honor this special new State Holiday. LWV Golden Valley and LWVMN are hosting guests and offering a voter engagement table at the event. We need 5 more volunteers, who all will received a new LWV purple t-shirt! Please email mwitte@lwvmn.org to volunteer.
