West Metro LWV Leagues will be welcoming John Boehler, a Policy Council with the ACLU MN on March 14th at 10:00am on Zoom. He will speak on the role of the ACLU in Minnesota with a focus on defending immigration rights.
John Boehler is the Policy Counsel at the ACLU of Minnesota. Prior to his work with the ACLU-MN, he worked for the Minnesota House of Representatives for 4 years. Originally from New Jersey, he is a graduate of Bucknell University and Rutgers School of Law. John lives in Minneapolis with his spouse and two children.
John has been quoted as a legal expert in the Minnesota Reformer on 12-20-2026 in an article by Michelle Griffith, “ICE Maybe Tracking You Via Your Cell Phone, A Minnesota Law may Help”
John Boehler said that the organization is aware of ICE using facial recognition software and license plate readers in Minnesota. Federal agents have reportedly for years been using surveillance mechanisms to track people.
“Data is being weaponized,” Boehler said. “It’s being weaponized by a hostile federal government, and that was always the intended use for all that data collection.”
