Volunteer!

YOU can make a difference in the 2024 election by sharing your time, talents or treasures! Whether you have only 10 minutes to pinch hit, or perhaps a whole day to contribute - we have a role for you on our All-Star Voter Engagement Team!

Why volunteer with us?

The League of Women Voters has been a trusted source of nonpartisan information for over 100 years. We do not support or oppose candidates or political parties at any level of government. With local Leagues and members across the state, we envision a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge and the confidence to participate. As a Voter Engagement volunteer, you are joining a Team that values inclusion, facts, and collaboration.

I’m interested. Where do you need me?

There are 87 counties in Minnesota, and we want to touch all of them. Whether you live in St Paul, International Falls, or Worthington, we need you to play a role.  Local LWV members can be part of our team for these statewide initiatives, if you have extra time or contacts to share. But you do not need to be an LWV member to volunteer! All are welcome and needed to help us support our MN voters and voters-to-be this year.

What are the opportunities?

Minnesota’s elections are a team sport with high participation rates and bipartisan safeguards carried out by local election officials every season. We need volunteers to highlight trusted resources and develop connections in your community around voting. Keep scrolling for opportunities to engage and fill out your interest on this Google form to help us cover all the bases from voter (pre)registration to how we know our elections are fair and accurate.

🚩Submit a letter to the editor drafted by LWV about our new election laws, and how our elections are fair and accurate.  Help us educate MN voters and counter misinformation! (Time estimate: 30 minutes.)

  • Topics range from how our machines are tested and where the public can participate, to voter rights and how automatic voter registration works. Work with LWV staff to research the rules for submitting the letter to your local newspaper, or perhaps to a local government or nonprofit newsletter to share good and factual information about voting and elections in your community!

🚩Connect to a high school so LWV can pre-register and register young voters, who currently vote 20 points less than average in Minnesota. (Time estimate: 2-4 hours. )

  • LWV is partnering with the Office of the Secretary of State (OSS) and all three major political parties in MN to sponsor National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) on September 17! Our goal is for all high schools in Minnesota to participate in NVRD, and we need YOU to help us reach out to any school where you have a connection. Help be an ambassador for a high school and let them know how they can register for the event, and send ongoing resources from LWV and OSS to engage young voters.

🚩Help promote VOTE411 so voters - and candidates -  have access to the only statewide, bilingual voter guide featuring all candidates in 2024. (Time estimate: 4 hours from June-October, with more hours as you’re available.)

  • Every candidate in Minnesota is invited to participate in our online voter guide and we need YOU to help us follow up with those who haven’t responded to our questionnaire and to promote this nonpartisan resource in your communities.  We are also looking for volunteers to help us populate VOTE411 with biographic information.  This can all be done from home, or with us at our office!

🚩Serve at an  LWV Candidate Forum, as the "gold standard" for nonpartisan voter information. (Time estimate: 4 hours minimum, depending on # of Forums you assist.)

  • Local Leagues are expected to hold 300+ forums in 2024, and volunteers are needed for tasks such as greeting candidates and audience members, or helping with arrangements.

🚩Be an Observer for the Post Election Review after the November 5, 2024 election to witness and amplify the results of the PER. (Time estimate: 8-10 hours for LWVMN trained observers, 4 hours as an audience member)

  • Help us document the results and support the election verification process by being a Post Election Review observer! Any member of the public can attend, but LWV volunteers will be trained to document and share the results of this unique and critical safeguard of MN elections.

🚩Be part of a Voter Engagement Table! We’ll have tables up all over the state to register, inform and engage voters this summer and fall. It might be at a local fair, a special event to reach our new voters who were formerly incarcerated, or perhaps register new high school students. Let us know if you’re interested, and we’ll find a place for you to serve! (Time estimate: 2-6 hours.)

🚩Volunteer at one of our Naturalization Ceremonies to help register newly-naturalized citizens! This is a wonderful opportunity to engage with our newest voters. Learn more here.

🚩Observe Key County Meetings. Meet your local Election Official and observe and report back to us about key county meetings where elections are being discussed. Defending democracy is often just about “showing up” and being present, to help understand the issues and flag for LWV staff anything that needs our attention. (Time Estimate: 8-12 hours over the course of an election season.)

🚩Share a Contact! If you only have 10 minutes to spare, you could still help us hit home runs this season by sharing any helpful contacts you might have for high schools or local media sources, or perhaps public education venues where we can help get the word out about the many ways people can become registered, informed and engaged voters! Share your contacts and ideas with us!

🚩Sponsor the Home Team! No time to be ON the team this year? That’s OK! You can play a supporting role by donating to our efforts or sponsoring Vote411 - or joining LWV if you haven’t done so already! Every “ball played” will make a difference to this election! Thanks so much for your support!

🚩Last but not least… Become an election judge! In Minnesota, you can serve in any precinct to fulfill the party-balanced requirement. We can refer you to your county elections officials to start the process - to see our safeguards play out in real time.

Join our team for the 2024 election! Step up to the plate and take your turn helping with one of the many roles
needed to ensure we have registered, informed and engaged voters, taking part in safe, secure and fair elections.
