Democracy is not self-sustaining. It depends on informed voters, transparent elections, and people willing to step forward.
When you join the League of Women Voters of Minnesota, you become part of a trusted, nonpartisan organization that works statewide to strengthen elections, expand voter access, and advocate for policies that support a healthy democracy.
Membership is open to anyone age 16 or older. You do not have to be a policy expert. You simply need to care about civic participation and fair representation. Join today and help make democracy work in Minnesota.
How to Join the League of Women Voters
Membership dues are paid annually and support work at the local, state, and national levels of the League. Democracy works best when people participate. Join the League of Women Voters of Minnesota and help protect voting rights, defend election integrity, and ensure that every voice counts.
1. Does your city already have a local league?
Check the list of existing Minnesota leagues below. If you see your local league, please use that link to join your local league. By joining your local league, you'll automatically join both the state and national chapters.
2. No local league? Become a State member!
If you don’t have a local League in your area, or are only interested in keeping an eye on state initiatives (little to no involvement with local activities), opt for a state membership.

The League has served as a respected civic voice for more than 100 years. We do not support or oppose political parties or candidates. Instead, we provide fact-based voter education, candidate forums, election resources, and research that Minnesotans rely on.

If you live in an area without a local League, you can join the League of Women Voters of Minnesota directly and still:

You do not need prior experience in advocacy or public policy. The League provides training, education, and support.

Does joining a local League also connect me to the Minnesota and national League?
Yes. When you join through a local League chapter in Minnesota, your membership automatically includes membership in:
- The League of Women Voters of Minnesota
- The League of Women Voters of the United States
You are connected at all three levels.
If I donate to the national League, am I automatically connected to Minnesota?
No. Joining the national League alone does not automatically enroll you in the Minnesota League or a local League. To participate in Minnesota-based advocacy and programs, you should join the LWV of Minnesota League or a local League.
Do I have to volunteer if I become a member?
No. Some members choose to volunteer regularly. Others stay informed and support the League through membership alone. Your level of involvement is entirely up to you.
Is the League partisan?
No. The League of Women Voters is strictly nonpartisan. We do not endorse or oppose candidates or political parties. We advocate based on carefully studied policy positions and democratic principles.
Can students join?
Yes. Anyone age 16 or older can join. Students are encouraged to participate and may be eligible for youth engagement programs and fellowships.
How are membership dues used?
Membership dues support:
